Let’s be honest, calling someone to your home for the diagnosis and (hopefully) repair of an air system is not something that anyone looks forward to. Your mind automatically scans the list of worst case scenarios. You begin to mentally make peace with the astronomical sum of money you are positive will be needed to resolve the situation. Before you reach full on melt-down mode, there are a few (easy) steps that you can take to make this experience more pleasant.
It is impossible to overstate the importance of finding a reputable company. This single variable can impact the entirety of your customer service experience. So, where to start?
People who have had positive experiences with contractors and businesses love to talk about it! Make some inquiries with friends and neighbors to see who they have used in the past. Find out about their experience. How were they treated? Did the company treat them and their property with respect, professionalism and kindness? Would they use them again? Take to Facebook or online forums to see if anyone in the area knows of a hidden gem of a company. Once you have a couple of businesses on the list, do some homework of your own.
How long has the company been in business? This is certainly a great marker of experience, but more importantly, it means that you can more easily research them.
The quickest way to determine the reputation of a business is to take to the internet! Do they have a website? Not only does a website indicate a legitimate business, it allows you to take a peek inside of their virtual storefront. They will likely share commonly requested information on their website. Keep an eye out for proper licensing, bonding and insurance. Look for testimonials. Established businesses know that happy customers are the most powerful marketing tool in their arsenal!
Search for reviews. Sites like Angie’s List, Yelp and the Better Business Bureau are great places to gauge how previous customers have been treated.
Conduct a standard Google search on the business and see what pops up. Event better, visit their Facebook page. Established businesses can often be found sponsoring events or teams. They are likely Chamber of Commerce members and seek additional opportunities to support the community. Why do you care? Because this speaks to the integrity of the business. It indicates that they are willing to invest in their community and understand the importance of their reputation.
Before you begin randomly calling businesses because you have seen their trucks while stuck in traffic, consider taking this more deliberate approach. You will be amazed how a little work on the front end will save you an immense amount of time, money and aggravation later on.
